Put those three next to each other and most people genuinely can't tell what's different. So you end up picking whichever cable you already have lying around, or whichever port happens to fit.

Good news: you don't need to memorize every version number to pick the right one. The real difference between these connectors comes down to one thing — who they were originally built for. Understand that, and picking the right one becomes obvious.

HDMI: grew up in the living room
